MSI's tarnished Diamond (update)

MSI seems to have caused a bit of an unwanted stir with the European launch of its flagship K8N Diamond SLI motherboard, according to its dedicated user forum. The problem is MSI's 'Dual Net' adapter, a combined 802.11g/Bluetooth PCI card that was supposed to be bundled with the £150 motherboard.

Except, it seems, in Europe. So all the European punters who stumped up the cash for pre-orders are more than a little peeved.

We've contacted MSI UK about this and they've promised us an answer, so stay tuned.

Oh, and we received a review sample of the board a few days ago, and yes, it has no Dual Net adapter. But it did have the word 'optional' in brackets next to the picture of the adapter on the box..

Update: MSI has just replied to our questions, and asked us to state that any UK customer with a complaint about this product should email MSI customer services for a resolution. All registered UK forum users have apparently been contacted, and correctly labelled products are being shipped to UK resellers.

I am a registered Diamond owner - they have not contacted me, nor answered the six emails so far that I have sent them.

I forgot to add...

There is no "optional" mentioned on *my* box - just "plus MSI Dual-Net Card".

Have you emailed the address given in the post - K8ndiamond@msicomputer.co.uk

Posted by: Kelvyn | 4 Feb 2005 16:18:46

Only when I read it here, just before I posted my comments.

There was no mention of such an email address on the forum, MSI's website or anywhere else I have seen.

That's correct - it's a special address created for this problem, and was given to us by MSI's UK PR agency yesterday.

Thanks for that clarification. I have to say I am impressed by the mainboard so far; it's a real shame the 'Diamond' has had its shine taken off for many of us by the DualNet card issue.

I have been emailing MSI UK for over a week. I know they must be busy, but they could at least have said "hello - we are working on it".

Same here Im not a UK customer but I did order mine in the UK. Also Im a register User in the Diamond forum and I have post plenty of posts and sent many emails with no answer yet from MSI.....

In case anyone tires clicking the 'forum' link in the above text, you can't read the interesting stuff as MSI has decided to censor (hide) the main discussion forum. Only registered Diamond owners can now see that.

This is depsite MSI claiming that *everyone* could view the forums, but only registered owners could post.

The price of the K8N Diamond without the dual-net card is lower due to the exclusion by around £20. Because MSI feels that some users were not adequately made aware of the exclusion of the card we have set up the e-mail address:

k8ndiamond@msicomputer.co.uk

Which should be used for anyone disputing the inclusion of the card. E-mails sent to other addresses such as sales, or marketing will not be answered due to it hitting an unrelated department. This is the likely reason for Eric's lack of reply. The k8ndiamond query e-mail address has a response time of 24hrs.

MSI aims to keep every customer happy which is why we have taken this so seriously.

I was quick enough to comment that MSI were ignoring me, so I should be equally quick to say they have now contacted me and agreed to supply me with the DualNet card free of charge.

Well done MSI.

I have a DualNet card! Thank you MSI.

I believe there are still a *lot* of people who haven't got one yet though...
