Time Computers is back - and under the same management

Anyone burnt by Time and Tiny's parent Granville Technology Group going into administration are going to be pretty shocked to hear that Time is relaunching in a couple of weeks.

It's owned by the same family as before, has bought back its factory from the administrators, so is trading from the same premises, and is even using the same Time brand.

With so many businesses and people left badly out of pocket financially when the company went bust, a lot of people will be asking how the family gathered the money together to buy back the factory. You won't be surprised to learn though that the family still owned the business park on which it sits - and that the land never went to the administrators.

It's going to be tough for Time to convince customer to trust them again, and rightly so in our view.  Right now, we'd suggest you think very carefully before parting with your hard earned money on a Time PC or laptop.

Comments

I would think it will also become difficult for them to recuit if they base the factory in the same location. over 1300 employees where made redundant many with out a final paypacket or severance pay.
It is interesting that they claimed not to be able to afford to pay staff wages yet the same people managed to not only never release most of the assests but also buy back the assests of a company that had been handed over to the offical recievers. At a time (no pun meant) when the offical recivers where telling both the press and the ceditors that it was a mess and they where trying to unravel the information, yet it now appears that they where selling assests at this time back to the people who the assests had just been recieved from!

Agreed. I think there are serious questions that need to be asked, but UK law allows this to happen - the owners haven't been banned from owning a company.

I know at least one senior person who lost his job last July has been hired back - and apparently others have been hired second time around as well.

i use to work for time computers for a bit and people there were saying that the owners where planing on doing this.

A lot of customers with warrenties on there pcs lost out.

We now most of the money was going to the kayman islands.

Same sort of thing tiny did.

This 'rebirth' technique has been used in other industries for at least 20 years,I knew of one family who went through at least 6 regenerations as a double glazing company. Each time the public lost out but the suppliers come back again and again, factoring the losses into the next costing!!Likewise the Newspapers and magazines who carry the full page adverts that pull in the next lot of buyers.I hope the computer press at least insist on prepayment, there again I suppose it can all be factored in somewhere.Which group would be brave enough to decline the ads?

This is not suprising, it's always the consumer that gets stuffed when big companies go bust and the government do nothing about closing the loopholes to stop legal theft by individuals working the system.

Was gutted to read the forums about Mesh Computers after finding a perfect spec PC within my budget. Now equally gutted about the comments concerning Time computers - had just found a mouthwatering deal and was hoping that the apparent "Watford takeover" might have improved things sufficiently to take a risk.

But no! Was the quality of Time Pc's ever any good?

Time and Tiny were part of the same group until the management company went bust. Watford then bought the Tiny brand, but not the Time brand.

New Tiny machines are built and sold by Watford. It is only the Time brand that still operates under the old management.

So if you are looking to buy a Tiny machine, you're buying from Watford. If you're looking to buy from Time, then you are buying essentially (eg there are legal differences) from the same company that went into liquidation and left loads of consumers and suppliers out of pocket.

I can't believe this!!!!!
My laptop i bought from them was trouble from day1..
I sent it back 2 them 6times 2 get it fixed leavin me without a computer and out of pocket from all the £1/min calls about the problems..
There tec staff were so crap at analysing the problem they pretty much replaced the whole insided within those 6 visits and only got it right on the last send back..

A company this bad shud never of got as big as it did, and payed they price for such pour service and computers built of such cheap parts which were bound to fail..

I lost 18months garantee due 2 the liquidation and didn't c a penny back obviously..
now they're back!!!

Something tells me this was planned 2 clear the mess they were in and start a fresh..
But wot a stupid idea 2 keep the name!!! their name is so tainted how do they expect any1 2 trust them!!!!

I feel insulted that they r back.. and doubt they will do anything for any of their old customers..

no1 shud ever buy from this company eva!!!!

I paid for a computer from Tiny few days before the company was declared insolvent. I emailed the parent company Granville and got no reply.
I am putting the matter in the hands of my Solicitors now.

Hi
Re:Time computer Model VT8372.I have managed to write this Comment being that I have at last managed to connect online. The problem is that most times this pc starts up with the clock second hand running very fast. The same with the Task Manager etc etc.I cannot do anything untill it starts up normal, then there is no problem.I have loaded SP2 ok.Also Reload CD and restore to no avail.I think it all started when I instaled Spy Sweeper which did not work and required updating due to time runout.Have now uninstalled. Is there anything I can do to rectify this problem?
Kind Regards Norman

I can't believe this! I only found this out by 'accident' - I still have a time PC which was still under (extended) guarantee when they went under. I had a problem just before this and contacted them - they said I needed a new Restore disc which I paid for and never got. Meanwhile I got the problem sorted through online help. Didn't even need a new restore disc! So I lost the rest of the extended warranty plus £48 for the disc - which was overcharged to boot (pun intended!)
I lost a lot less than others did but I would NEVER buy from Time again - I'd think twice even if they were giving them away!
