Nintendo Wiis on Revolution - a piss poor name

As you may have heard, Nintendo has rebranded its Revolution consoles, renaming the buggers Wii (pronounced 'wee'). Working in the tech business, we come across a lot of rubbish names for products, but this is one of the worst ever.

Why would you scrap the name Revolution, which conjures images of battles, standing up for your rights and beliefs, strength and change and replace it with Wii?

'We' brings images of the nearest alley on a Friday night after you've been down the pub, toilets and smelly places.

Nintendo claims its all about togetherness, but I'd love to meet the person that convinced the board that this was a great move. (S)He must have one smooth tongue.

'While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

'Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolises both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play,' says Nintendo. What pretencious crap!

Wii will stick with the competition.

what difference does it make what it's called!! ever thought about the fact that it's a Japanese company who use a different language to english and so don't narrow mindedly link the word Wii with bodily fluids and snigger like school kids. what will u do if the next playstation is dubbed the "krud" then you"ll have to spend the rest of your days playing xbox.

Perhaps you should suggest Krud to Nintendo - they might have a Wii accessory looking for a name.

And yes, we would say the Sony Krud is a rubbish name, just like the Wii is a crap name.

Personally I think even the marketing people think it's a bad name - why else would they come up with so much pretencious BS to justify it?

Is this something to with Intel's funny spelling of Viiv (prounounced to rhyme with five, however, not Viv)?

Considering the market they are aiming at, an owner of an Xbox or Playstation would not be ashamed of saying they owned one. But owners of a "Wee"?

Watch sales fall off a cliff!

I have to say compared to the idea that the name 'Revolution' conjures in your head the name 'Wii' is a bit of a disapointment and I think in conversation i would refer to it as the revolution. Mostly because i couldn't go round going i have a Wii Wii, kind of takes the shine of it really.

But in the end I'm not that fussed about the name, looking at the capabilities of the system and how the controllers could be implemented and the previous games available on pritty much all the previous nintendo systems, frankly I can't wait till it comes out.

Yes its a crap name. But it's by FAR the most exciting console of the three. Xbox 360 is utter PANTS (three people i know have bought and sold theirs). PS3 will cost an arm and a leg -- and both consoles are just going to be rehashing the same types of games but with shinier graphics. Has anyone actually played a 360?? They're rubbish. At least Wii is offering something new and exciting. Kudos to Nintendo.

If your a gamer, and you let a name persuade your decision to buy a console, it just shows how stupid you really are. You make Wee jokes, shows how childish you are. You buy a 360 and a PS3 (very original names by the way), shows how gullible you are.
