Sony's PS3 finally gets its launch date
Sony has just announced its long awaited PS3 console will be launched on 17th November.
The rival to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's forthcoming Wii will be priced at $499 (£269) for the version with a 20GB hard drive while the 60GB model will cost $599 (£322).
However, these are US prices. Here in the UK, we can expect to pay around €499 (£341) for the basic 20GB model - a fairly hefty premium.
The launch of the PS3 will also see a much needed boost for Blu-ray - HD-DVD (the other HD format) currently appears to be leading the race for high-definition domination.
