HP's special sauce: a Universal Print Driver
It's not often that technology gets simpler rather than more complicated but the release of version 2.0 of HP's universal printer driver may be one such occasion. Its use removes the need for a multitude of drivers, as it supports the full functionality of all HP printers made since 1997.
Version 2.0 integrates with HP's managed printing administration tool. Although home users won't need to make use of it, its benefits can be seen in a networked environment in the form of improved queue management and reduced admin overhead.
But surprise, surprise ... it only works with HP printers (and HP emulating printers), despite the existing support for the functions of other manufacturers' printers by independent printer drivers.
